The winter solstice has been celebrated in cultures around the world over thousands of centuries. As the shortest day/longest night of the year, it gives us an opportunity to celebrate the light and rebirth of the Sun. We have all completed one more official journey around the Sun!
As a whole we’ve moved away from a simpler lifestyle that depended on animals, nature and seasons. This connection to Mother Nature has become lost from the daily conveniences of our modern lives as we rely more and more on commerce, industrial farming and grocery stores.
The Winter Solstice gives us an opportunity to return to basics; celebrate mankind’s relationship with the earth and the deep connection that we have with the changing of the season’s, respect and appreciation for our environment and for each other, and simple gratitude. It can give us time to create a loving space in which to reflect on the past year and set new intentions for the future.
Let’s begin this holiday season with a candlelight yoga session that focuses on finding your inner joy and peace. Let’s take a moment to celebrate our lives, our loves, our joys, our abundances, and our health. Come and share some gentle movement with Julie. A smudging ritual is followed by stretching, some breath work and time for self-reflection, contemplation and meditation.
